Lucky Dip
£5 per person plus admission.
Number of places available in this category: 160 individuals (80 male / 80 female)
In this section no-one knows who their partner will be until the day itself, they may be a complete stranger they may not! They may be a good dancer - they may not.
There are 80 men and 80 women. Only the men have dance numbers. The ladies are allocated pink slips which they must bring with them on the day. Couples are allocated on a random basis on the day. The mens dance number is recorded on the ladies pink slip as a record of the partnership. It is important that you are able to be at the venue on the day before 11am to register and be ready, on the dance floor for partnering at 11.15am.

In this section no-one knows who their partner will be! we aim to discover who are the best individual dancers with this category. Tops Cat's is based on the Jack & Jill concept where individuals are randomly paired in each round and judged on their dancing. It is the individuals who go through to the next round, again to be randomly paired for the next heat. This means that each entrant may have a different partner for each round.
Number of entries to this category are limitless but obviously it has to be gender balanced. Each competitor will receive a dance number which has to be pinned in a place where it is VERY easy for the judges to see.

This section is open to all dancers who know or can learn the 16 basic beginners moves and feel that they can dance them with style and flair. If you do not have the time or inclination to learn and practise new moves or choreography required for some of the other categories, but would like to compete with your chosen partner, then this is the category for you! judges will be looking for musicality and style expressed by strong adroit dancers who can make the most basic moves look amazing. The winners of this trophy will really be just great dancers.

Only 1 partner of the dance partnership can be a Dance Professional*.
*Modern Jive Dance Professional definition:
Anyone who has taught more than 6 times in the previous 6 month.
Anyone who is intending to teach more than 6 times in the next 6 months.
Your dancing in all the heats and finals must consist of some or all of the current Ceroc beginners moves ONLY in any combination and with no variations, adaptions, modifications, innovations or additions. All of which are included in the list below:

In this section competitors choose their own piece of music and perform their own choreography.
This category is intended as a platform to showcase any genre of dance e.g.
Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, Flamenco, Lambada, Ballroom, Latin, Lindy Hop, Tango, Salsa, African, Indian, West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, Rock'n'Roll etc.
Applications for inclusion in the Showcase category will be subject to scrutiny prior to being accepted. This is to maintain the quality of performance in this category.
The applicant must apply and pay online for their Day Tickets and their Showcase category place prior to sending in details of their routine. Should the routine not be accepted then the entry fee(s) will be refunded by cheque.
IMPORTANT
After application for consideration in this category the applicants will be contacted by Ceroc South Wales who will require a video clip of the 'work in progress' of the applicant's routine along with a written description of the content of the routine and the costumes that will be worn. This video clip must be received before the deadline (please contact us about the deadline date and video format) at: Welsh Champs, 17 Spencer Drive, Llandough, Cardiff. CF64 2LR.
Once accepted, competitors will be contacted on a regular basis prior to the event to ensure that progress is being maintained and the 'Showcases' will be ready for the event.

In this section you need to make up a threesome. If you can't make up your mind which partner to choose, this is the event for you - you can dance with them both!

Each team must consist of three people in any combination of male/female dancers.
The dancing must be continuous but the lead is allowed to change from one partner to another.

Number of places available in this category: 5 teams
Competitors choose their own piece of music and perform their own choreography. There is no restriction on the number of hold-breaks or drops/lifts in order to allow more artistic freedom. However, all Team Cabaret routines must consist predominantly of Ceroc. Anyone who does not adhere to the spirit of the rules will jeopardise their chances of winning.
Competition Rules
This category is open to all, amateur and professional.
A team must be between three and ten couples.
Each team must nominate a Representative (Team Leader) or Choreographer through whom all discussions will take place.
Each team must dance to their own music which must be provided to the organisers in Cardiff by no later than Friday 10th August 2012, on either a Audio CD or USB Flash Drive, maximum of 6 minutes in length.
Team Leaders must submit the names of all team members by 10th August 2012.
Any performance which is either under 3 minutes or over 6 minutes will mean automatic disqualification.
Routines, whilst judged for their entertainment value hence the "cabaret" element must be predominantly modern jive/Ceroc-based: no matter how entertaining, if the routine does not contain a minimum of 60% modern jive/Ceroc, it will not be considered for a place in the final.

You can forget the rhinestones or flash choreographed moves and be prepared to feel the music and get it on with our ‘funKed uP’ DJs. Expect amazing music with undertones of hip hop, funk, soul, funky blues or R&B. Not your standard ‘freestyle’ category but one that will allow you to own the floor!
Competition Rules
This category is open to amateurs and professionals.
Couples will dance to music chosen by the DJs for the ‘funKed uP’ tea dance (Mark Kerr and Nick Stevens) and will be musically challenging.
The definition and timing of the music, plus your own musical style, may encourage all dance styles. Therefore all styles are permitted.
All judging will be by a points system. Dancers are encouraged to dance to the end of their heat. Qualifying dancers will be asked back to the next round. Judges decisions are final.
Points will mainly be awarded for musical interpretation rather than the number/difficulty of moves.
Judges will NOT award points for dress and presentation so be as casual as you like!
Airsteps, (lifts, jumps and acrobatic moves), will not be permitted. Disqualification from the competition will be automatic should a couple attempt these moves.
Drops will be permitted provided that the ball of one of the lady's feet remains in contact with the ground. Otherwise the move will be defined as an airstep.
Partners must not release hand hold or break contact for more than eight beats.
The lead and follow aspect of the dance must clearly be demonstrated.
This event is for over 16s only.
Competitor numbers are strictly limited to 20 couples so places are allocated on a first come first served basis.
Ceroc South Wales reserves the right to change the programme and competition if necessary without consultation.
The event will be recorded by film, video and photograph; these may be used for Ceroc promotional purposes without any obligation.
